My Play for Mexico City

Come check out my play behind the paywall!

02/01/2019 by Zach Lesage

Live From Mexico

What’s up 60 Cards readers? I’m here in Mexico City and I have been playtesting my decks all day and I am honestly puzzled. It is currently 8:19PM here and I guess you could say that I have settled it down to two decks.

I am using my remaining time tonight to finalize my lists, but I do want to provide you with some juicy information to make sure that you are on the same wavelength as me. Ok, let me stop rambling on, let’s hop into it.

My Thoughts Right Now

Looking at the metagame, I have heard that there will be spread decks, Zoroark GX (SLG; 53)  decks, and the possibility for everything else. My two decks that I am settling on are Tapu Koko (BW; 31)  / Poison Barb (SUM; 124)  and Blacephalon GX (LT; 52)  / Naganadel (LT; 108) ; both of these decks seem incredibly powerful heading into the event tomorrow. The issue is, which deck do I pick? If I pick wrong, I could be in Mexico City for an expensive vacation or I could be popping off to get some much deserved Championship Points. If I go in with Blacephalon GX (LT; 52) , I think there is a higher chance that I will get countered, but it is possible to turn up in any match up. Tapu Koko (BW; 31)  is super underrated right now, but it can face against random decks that I might have no answers for.

I can also just play against players who don’t know how to play against a spread deck and have a solid day. This is where I am at, I am puzzled, it is frustrating, but I need to come up with an answer. That being said, my first choice is to play Tapu Koko (BW; 31) ! The deck has plenty of neutral matchups, it’s easy to play, and my opponents likely won’t know how to play against that deck. It’s a difficult decision, but I feel like it’s my best option to get CP at the event. I guess the next step is for me to finalize my list...

My Play for Mexico City

LOL! So in a sudden turn of events, I switched decks last second. Here is my list:

If you are looking for any information on this list, check out my recent article from this this week. It goes into full detail. You can check that out here.

Let’s Get It!

That’s a wrap. I will have articles up next week heading into the Team Up format and that’s where it is right now. My trip to this Special Event has been less than planned and I am looking forward to be playing in a new Standard format in Australia. I usually go a bit more in depth with my seasonal plans in my outro, but I am finalizing my list as I type. As always, thanks for the support, I’ll do my best tomorrow that I can!

Cheers,
Zach
